Astorville-
Saturday, November 1, 2025- What happens when you have the number one and the
number two point getters in the league on one team?
Only good things! The U13A Ultimate Sales
Sting took to the ice twice on Saturday looking to continue their winning ways against
the U12 Vipers. The first game featured a clinic in goal as Lawson Restoule
stood tall for his team in a 4-1 victory that featured as many penalty minutes
as there are minutes in the game. The first period started off with the Vipers
scoring early, Jacob Marentette (Shank) snuck one by Restoule, and the parents
of the Vipers began to celebrate what they thought would be an easy win as the
first period progressed, the chippy
nature of the game escalated. Each team took four penalties in the period. Bruno
Lafond (Body checking), Simon Bazinet (Head Contact), Simon Bazinet (Head
Contact), Jase Vaillant (Roughing) each took penalties for the Sting; River
Sauvé (body checking), Rhys Foisy (hooking), River Sauvé (roughing), Lyon
Gauthier (Body Checking) all took penalties for the Vipers.
After
a brief chat from the coaching staff, the Sting settled down and got to scoring
instead of taking penalties. The Vipers did not get the same message, and they
took two penalties in the period, both of which resulted in Sting goals. First,
Zachary Marentette took a tripping call, and Simon Bazinet (Restoule) even the
game up. Shortly after, Noah Shank (head contact) put the Vipers down a man,
and Simon Bazinet (N. Serré) made them pay again. As buzzer sounded to end the
period, the Sting were up 2-1.
The
third period, to keep it honest, got stupid. There were penalties, goals,
screaming Viper parents, and did I mention penalties? The only two goals came
from the Sting: Jaxen Beauparlant (Beaucage) scored his second of the season,
and Bruno Lafond added his seventh. Hunter Seguin (Head Contact), Zach Serré
(Roughing), Jaxen Beauparlant (Body Checking), Jase Vaillant (Roughing), Bruno
Lafond (Unsportsmanlike Conduct) Noah Serré (Body Checking) all took penalties
for the Sting. Rhys Foisy (Body Checking), Andrew Hilgartner (roughing), Owen
Gauthier (roughing) River Sauvé (Roughing), Karson Lamont (cross-checking),
Hudson Gingras (Body Checking), and Andrew Hilgartner (Body Checking) all took
penalties for the Vipers.
Game 2
The message from the Sting coaching staff
was simple between games, “calm down, and don’t get out of your game”. At first it seemed like the message was the
same to the Vipers as they came out playing hockey. Noah Shank (Gingras) got
the Vipers on the board early, but Micheal Fox (Restoule) would even things up
for the Sting. It looked like the Sting would get away even on the period, but
with two minutes left in the period , Noah Shank (Donnelly) would score his second
of the game. After one the Sting trailed 2-1. Penalties for the Sting in the
period went to Hunter Seguin (Interference) and Simon Bazinet (Roughing). The
Vipers also took two: Ainsley Worrell (Interreference) and Hudson Gingras
(roughing).
The
second period was good hard hockey from both teams. Each team came out with
great chances, skating hard, passing the puck, and both goalies stood tall for
their team. The only goal in the period came to Tyler Etches (Sauvé and
Marentette). Bruno Lafond (Boarding),
Jaxen Beauparlant (Head Contact) took the penalties for the Sting. Zachary
Maretette (tripping), and River Sauvé (Head Contact) were the only two
penalties for the Vipers.
Something
happened to the Vipers in the third that caused them to lose the game. I don’t
know if it was their carousel of penalties, their head coach snapping his clip
board, or the parents of the Vipers screaming vitriol, but the Vipers stopped
playing hockey, and the Ultimate Sales Sting took over. Hunter Seguin (Fox) got
things started early for the Sting, and then the penalties started, and the
Ultimate Sales Power Play took over from there. Ryerson Davis (Bazinet),
Michael Fox (Lafond and Seguin) and Michael Fox each scored a power play goal
for the Sting, and the game ended with tempers flaring, and the Sting taking
both games against the Vipers.
