Sault Ste Marie-January 31, 2025
It was not the start the U13A Ultimate Sales Sting were hoping for as they dropped game 1 of the Sault Extravaganza tournament against the host Sault Winmar.
As the team skated onto the ice for warmups, something seemed off for goalie Lawson Restoule. His skates were not biting properly into the ice causing him to have difficulty stopping, and moving laterally in the net. The Sting started the period off right when captain Kazz Renaud-Paquette took a great feed from a Sting defender burying his first of the tournament. Before the period would end the Sault would pot two of their own. The Sting would take no penalties in the period.
The second period could be summed up in one word, slow. The Sting seemed to stop skating in the second period allowing the Sault to control the pace of the game. On their heals for most of the game, the Sting would score none while the Sault would score 1 making it 3-1. At the end of the period goaltender Restoule would ask to be removed as his skate issue was making it hard for him to move.
The third period would see the Sting skate better, but they could not pot a goal. Four posts were struck in the period, but the game would end 3-1. Player of the game for the Sting was Kazz Renaud-Paquette. The Sting will face off against a second Sault team this afternoon at 4pm.
