Sudbury-January
26, 2025- The U13A Ultimate Sales Sting went into Sunday holding onto fourth
place, they would end Sunday solidly in third.
Two victories over the U12 Sudbury Wolves
would catapult the Sting, and provide some much needed confidence going into a
tournament weekend. The first game
started off with some feeling out between the two teams that haven’t played
each other in quite a while. Both teams looked to establish a net presence
which resulted in the only penalties of the period as both Justin Richard and
Liam Gillis would sit for roughing. Shortly after the penalties expired, the
Sting got the scoring train going. Michael Fox (Guénette) scored in tight on
the goalie, and Gavin Pascoe would add another on a beauty shot from the point.
The period would end with Pascoe taking a 4 minute double minor for head
contact, and the Sting up 2-0.
With
Pascoe in the box, the Sting had skate hard early in order to stay in control.
The Sting did one better, Kwinton Rochefort (Richard and Noah Serré) would step
into the zone shorthanded and unload a blast from the point giving the Sting a
3-0 lead. Kazz Renaud-Paquette would also pot one in the period. Other
penalties for the Sting came to Jaxen Beauparlant (roughing), and Gavin Pascoe
(Head contact). The Wolves would take penalties to Jacob Demers (roughing) and
Grayson Rees (body checking).
The
Sudbury teams have a rule where they flood the ice between the second and third
periods. Usually this is just a mild distraction, but due to Zamboni issues the
Sting would have to wait over 30 minutes for the third. That wait seemed to
affect them. Liam Gillis (Barrette and Larochelle) would put the Wolves on the
board, and Ryder Laasko would make it interesting at 4-2. In stepped the
captain, Kazz Renaud-Paquette (Beauparlant) who scored his second of the game
to put the Sting back in control of the game. Bentley Carmichael (Rochefort)
would add an insurance goal. Maks Johnson (Richard) of the Wolves would add
another, but it was too little too late. The Sting would skate away with a 6-3
win. The only penalties went to the Sting in the third Justin Richard (body
checking), Kwinton Rochefort (roughing) and Phélix Guénette (unsportsmanlike
conduct). They player of the game for the Sting was Cédric Gagné.
The
second game would start off the opposite of the first as the U13A Ultimate
Sales Sting quickly found themselves down 1-0 to the Wolves. Cole Barrette
(Gillis) started the scoring for the Wolves who had an early advantage on the
larger ice surface. The First period would end 1-0 for the Wolves. No penalties
were assessed all game.
The
second period saw Brody Larochelle (Barrette) make it 2-0, but it would be the
last goal for the Wolves as the Sting were about to pot 7 unanswered goals.
Cédric Gagné would score one of the prettiest goals you will ever see as he
dominantly drove the puck from his end to the Wolves end breaking through all
five defenders. Not to be outdone, Kazz Renaud-Paquette (Guénette) would go
roof daddy to even the scoring. The second period ended 2-2.
The
third period would be a clinic of goal scoring from the Sting. Just 25 seconds
into the period, Michael Fox (Giguère) scored one of his patented sharp angle
shot goals. Kazz Renaud-Paquette would then score his second and third goals of
the game to put the Sting firmly in the lead. Zack Serré (Fox) and Kwinton
Rochefort would also score for the Sting. The player of the game for the Sting
was Simon Bazinet. The Sting will head to Sault Ste. Marie for a tournament
next weekend. The first game will be Friday, January 31 at noon. The game will
be live broadcasted on Facebook.
