Author: Nathan Pascoe

Copper Cliff- Saturday, January 18, 2025-  The U13A Ultimate Sales Sting rolled into Copper Cliff in a desperate need of a win, they would roll out with two.

The first game started with a clear message from the coaches, positivity, attitude, and hard work. The players heard the message and rolled with it. Short Zach Serré the Sting had to move defenseman Ryerson Davis up the forward and roll 5 D. The first period started off with Noah Stott (O’Connell and Caesar) scoring for the Reds, but instead of shutting down as they have in the pass, the Sting stepped up and took control of the game. Michael Fox would get the scoring started for the Sting as he sent an impossible angled shot on goal squeaking by the goalie to tie it at one. The only penalty in the period went to Meric Whissel (body checking) of the Reds.

The second period was all Sting, starting with Kazz Renaud-Paqeutte going end to end on the penalty kill to make it 2-1 for the Sting. From there the special teams took over for the Sting as Phélix Guénette (Davis and Fox) and Noah Serré (Bazinet and Lafond) each scored on the power play.  As the period went on The Reds slowly unraveled, they took five different penalties, as the fans and coaches lost their minds. Penalties in the period came to Phélix Guénette (Hooking), Kaiden Hulme (body checking), Meric Whissell (kneeing, kneeing), Jax Macneil (boarding), and Edward O’Connell (cross-checking).

The Third period would start with Michael Fox (Giguère ) sealing the deal on the game. From there it was a matter of controlling the neutral zone, quick skates, and hard play by the Sting as they ended the game with a 5-1 win. Things got scary as the time expired on the clock. Ben Parker boarded a Sting player as time expired. Luckily for the Sting there were no injuries on the play. O’Connell was issued a mandatory suspension for the game Misconduct penalty.  The only penalty for the Sting went to Kwinton Rochefort (tripping). The Reds would have penalties to Ben Parker (interference, Brady Caeser (boarding), and Ben Parker (Boarding). The player of the game for the Sting was Michael Fox.

Where the first game had a lack of discipline from the Red players, it was the Red fans who slowly descend into chaos in the second game. The Reds and Sting would play a great first period with neither team allowing a marker, as the game proceeded amicably. The only penalties in the period came to the Reds: Brady Caesar (slashing), and Blake Walton (tripping).  As the period ended tied at 0, so two would the serenity of the arena.

The second period started with the Reds potting two goals the first by Noah Stott and the second by Brady Caesar. It was when the penalties started that the screaming started. The Reds would take their second boarding major of the day as Kaiden Hulme boarded Bruno Lafond. As Lafond was helped up Reds fans could be heard screaming obscenities at the Refs, saying that the Sting players were fakers, and questioning how much it cost the Sting to pay the Refs off. Hulme should be issued a mandatory suspension on the play. As the second period was ending the comeback would start. Bentley Carmichael would be hard on the puck and drive the net, scoring with 15 seconds left in the period.

The third period would continue the degradation of the Reds fans sanity. A minute into the second period Noah Serré would score his second of the game allowing the Sting to tie it up. From that moment on, each time a referee touched the puck, the fans would boo. Parents screamed, coaches complained, and the Sting chugged along, finally showing the commitment to the system coaches have been preaching since day one. Bentley Carmichael would score his second of the game, and then Kazz Renaud-Paqeutte added the insurance goal as the period ended. Reds fans left dejected, and in the desperate need of a lesson in rink etiquette. The player of the game for the Sting was Bentley Carmichael. The Sting are back in action next weekend as they take on the Wolves in Sudbury on Saturday, January 25, 2025. The games are at 1:15 and 5:00, all games are broadcasted live on Facebook.
