Sting Give Themselves an early Christmas Present

Sturgeon Falls- December 15, 2024- The message was clear before the game, do better.

Coming off their worse loss of the season the U13A Ultimate Sales Sting simply had to be better: better skating, better shots, better passes, in short, better hockey. Cue the leadership core led by the captain Kazz Renaud-Paquette who would lead his team to a resounding 6-3 victory over the visiting Sudbury Wolves.

One area that the Sting have struggled with this year is scoring first. It is amazing how much better a team plays with an early lead. Today would be one of the first time the Sting were able to do that, and it would be Cédric Gagné who would grab a rebound from the hard skating Bentley Carmichael shorthanded. The Sting would have a noticeable skip in their steps from that moment on. Even shortly after when Sudbury tied it up (Henry Stockhaus) the Sting did not let up. Penalties to the Sting went to Jaxen Beauparlant (tripping) and Michael Fox (tripping). Penalties for the Wolves came to Lincoln Richard (body checking) and Landyn Madore-Crowder (tripping).

The second period would start bad for the Sting as Brodie Bellmore (Stockhaus) would give the Wolves the lead on a defensive mishap by the Sting. From that moment on, captain Kazz Renaud-Paquette said, no more. He would score his fifth of the season unassisted, and then with one minute left in the period would set up Peyton Restoule for her second of the year. Penalties for the Sting in the second went to Bruno Lafond (tripping) and Ryerson Davis (body checking). The Wolves would take none in return.

The third period continued the theme of hard skating by the Sting as Bentley Carmichael would score his first of the season to briefly give the Sting the 4-2 lead. Cole Barrette of the Wolves would score two minutes after. At 9:32 of the third period Kazz Renaud-Paquette would get his third breakaway of the game, and this time he would deke the goalie out scoring on his backhand. Shortly after the would complete the natural hat trick (assisted by Bentley Carmichael) and seal the 6-3 victory. Penalties in the third went to Gavin Pascoe (interference and tripping). The Wolves also took two penalties, Brody Larochelle (hooking and head contact).

Note that goalie Lawson Restoule would miss his second game of the season with a foot contusion, and AP goalie Nolan Come would sit as backup. Goalie Jake Leblanc would get the win. Player of the game for the Sting was Kazz Renaud-Paquette. Next up for the Sting are the Copper Cliff Reds in Sturgeon Falls on January 5th at 12:30pm. The game will be live streamed on Facebook.
