Defense Shine in Loss to the Trappers
Author: Nathan Pascoe

North Bay- December 1, 2024- December started in the same way that November ended for the U13A Ultimate Sales Sting, as they suffered a defeat to their rivals, the North Bay Trappers.

The game started with Owen Nash (Katapaytuk) sending a harmless hot on goal that snuck past goalie Lawson Restoule, and the period just went down from there. Dali Turcotte (Parkin) would pot a second goal 30 seconds later, and Braxton rice would make it 3-0 form a shot behind the net that found an opening. The only penalty in the period went to Colton Badowski for head contact.

The second period went way better for the Sting as they controlled the play in the neutral zone, pushed the speed of the game, and had the Trappers chasing them. The defense also took over the offensive game in the period as a tired Kwinton Rochefort (Fox) who had just killed a full two minutes of 5 on 3 pushed into the offensive zone and wired a shot past goaltender Cole Roussy to make it 3-1.  Penalties were much more plentiful in the period as the Trappers took four: Ainsley Killoran (Cross-Checking and Roughing), Jayven Hawn (Roughing) and Izaak Jean (Tripping). The Sting would take 3 of their own: Ryerson Davis (Head contact), Michael Fox (Interference), and Cedric Gagné (roughing).

The third period once again saw the Sting dominate the period with their speed, but the forwards struggled to get pucks on net, and when they did the Trappers goalie stood tall. The only goal for the Sting came from Gavin Pascoe (Fox) who snuck in from the point and buried a beautiful pass cross crease. The Sting looked like they might be able to use their momentum to at least time the game, but William Shago broke out shorthanded and buried the puck past Restoule to make it 4-2. Penalties for the Trappers in the period were to William Shago (tripping), Kalden Katapaytuk (tripping). The Sting only took one penalty to Jaxen Beauparlant for tripping.

Next up for the Sting is the Vipers pre Christmas Bash tournament starting on Friday. The Sting will take on the U12 Vipers at 1:15 in Astorville. The game will be livestreamed.
